In May 2022, the Claimant attended Worcestershire Royal Hospital after discovering a painful lump in his groin. He was advised that the lump was likely to be an infection and was prescribed antibiotics and discharged without follow up.
Over the following months, the Claimant continued to experience pain and the lump remained present.
It was not until October 2022 that the Claimant was then referred for specialist assessment. Following further investigations, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery in December 2022 to remove his right testicle.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the cancer had spread beyond the testicle and he required extensive chemotherapy treatment.
The Impact on the Claimant’s Life
Following his diagnosis, the Claimant underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and spent a significant period of time in hospital receiving treatment.
The spread of the cancer resulted in serious complications, including metastases affecting his hip. He later required emergency hip replacement surgery following a fracture and experienced a substantial loss of mobility and independence.
Prior to becoming unwell, the Claimant ran his own business and led an active and independent life. As a result of his condition and treatment, he now experiences ongoing mobility difficulties, pain and fatigue which continue to affect his daily life.
The Claimant also experienced significant emotional distress as a result of the delayed diagnosis, the subsequent treatment required and the uncertainty surrounding his future health.

A Letter of Claim was served on the Defendant. Liability was subsequently admitted and the Defendant provided the Claimant with a formal written apology for the failings in his care. Following obtaining expert evidence to support the value of the Claimant’s claim and preparing a detailed Schedule of Loss, The claim was successfully settled for £355,000, which has helped to give the Claimant back some level of independence and increase his quality of life.
